چکیده
The objective is to report a 33 year old female who came to the emergency room of Ophthalmology complaining of reduced visual acuity on the left eye, in a progressive and insidious way, about two years ago. In the ophthalmological examination, she presented dilated tortuous vessels in her left bulbar conjunctiva, very high intraocular pressure and increased cupping of the optic disc. SITASWAP and 24:2 computed perimetry were performed on the right eye, both within normal limits. CT scans of the skull and orbits, and ultrasonography of the eyeball and doppler of the ophthalmic artery and the supra-orbital veins had no abnormalities. Thus, it was suggested the possibility of idiopathic elevated episcleral venous pressure, an exclusion diagnosis, since intra-cranial and intraorbital pathologies were excluded. The patient was treated medically with hypotensive eyedrops, with significant reduction of intraocular pressure on the left eye, but not enough, evolving to trabeculectomy.

Radius-Maumenee syndrome was identified for the first time in 1978 by the two ophthalmologists who gave their names to the di sease. The characteristic clinical picture of this syndrome is idiopathic dilated episcleral vessels associated with increased intraocular pressure. The authors presented a report of four cases of idiopathic dilated episcleral vessels in the absence of carotid-cavernous ...
متن کاملEPISCLERAL VENOUS PRESSURE IN TONOGRAPHY * t BY ARTHUR
DURING the 11 years in which the clinical measurement of facility of outflow by means of tonography has been practised, various workers have sought to elucidate and correct the sources of error inherent in this method. One of the assumptions originally made concerning tonography was that the episcleral venous pressure was not disturbed during the measurement. Friedenwald (Grant, 1951) and Becke...

A 50-year-old woman, who had undergone extensive removal of conjunctiva on the right eye for cosmetic purposes at a local clinic 8 months prior to presentation, was referred for uncontrolled intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation (up to 38 mmHg) despite maximal medical treatment. The superior and inferior conjunctival and episcleral vessels were severely engorged and the nasal and temporal bulbar...

متن کاملAcidosis, alkalosis, and aqueous humor dynamics in rabbits.
Systemic acidosis induced by intravenous administration of hydrochloric acid lowered intraocular pressure in unanesthetized rabbits. Aqueous humor flow was reduced by approximately 50%, as measured by the iodide method and as calculated from tonographic data. Outflow facility, episcleral venous pressure, plasma osmolality, blood pressure, pulse, and body temperature were not altered by systemic...
